⚽ World Cup Special Edition 🌍

Mexico City trip reports + where in the world are you watching from?

⚽ It's World Cup Time

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is well underway.

48 teams. 16 host cities. Three countries β€” the USA, Canada, and Mexico β€” sharing the stage for the biggest tournament on earth.

Matches are being played from Vancouver to Guadalajara, from New York to Mexico City. And if you know anything about the digital nomad community, you know a lot of us are already in those cities, have been in those cities, or are now seriously reconsidering our next destination.

This week, we're doing something a little different…

Not a single trip report, but instead a World Cup special edition: A look at Mexico City through the eyes of three DNTR readers who've called it home, plus a chance to tell us where you are in the world right now.

πŸ‡²πŸ‡½ Mexico City β€” A World Cup Host City

Mexico City is one of just 16 venues hosting World Cup matches this summer. Estadio Azteca β€” one of the most iconic football grounds on the planet β€” sits right in the heart of CDMX.

Over the years, three of our readers have submitted trip reports from Mexico City.

Let’s see it through their eyes

Nathan | 10 weeks | Roma Norte | Solo πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

"I may be biased as a half-Mexican, but I really do think Mexican people are some of the nicest in the world. They're really fun, and generally very welcoming."

πŸ“ˆ Best: Affordability, world-class food, and a brilliant base for exploring the rest of Mexico.

❌ Avoid if: You're heavily budget-focused or have respiratory concerns in winter.

James | 2 weeks | Insurgentes Mixcoac | Solo πŸ‡¬πŸ‡¬

"The more questionable the place looks from the outside, the better the taco. It's science."

"Don't do what lots of other nomads do and just plant roots in Roma Norte β€” there is so much more of the city to see."

πŸ“ˆ Best: Each borough feels like its own self-contained city. If one area doesn't click, just move.

❌ Avoid if: You want peace and quiet β€” or hate traffic.

Sasmini | 1 month | San Rafael | Couple πŸ‡±πŸ‡°

"After the Pyramids, we went to their abuela's house for a homemade lunch and tasted tequila, pulque, and mezcal. Ended the day a bit tipsy, with new knowledge about Mexican culture and a few new friends."

πŸ“ˆ Best: Community-driven activities everywhere, and tacos from kerbside stalls to fine dining.

❌ Avoid if: You dislike big cities with traffic and noise, or need ultra-reliable internet.

A Global Community. A Global Tournament.

Here's what I love about both the World Cup AND the digital nomad community: they're both inherently international.

The World Cup brings 48 nations together.

It’s only a month or so, but the whole world watches together from living rooms, bars, beaches, co-working spaces, the streets - literally anywhere people happen to be.

That's not so different from what DNTR is built on.

Our readers are spread across the globe. Right now, some of you are watching matches in cafΓ©s in Chiang Mai, in sports bars in MedellΓn, on rooftops in Lisbon, or on the beach in Bali.

If you've spent time in any of the 16 host cities β€” Mexico City, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Miami, Seattle, Houston, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver, Guadalajara, or Monterrey β€” we'd especially love a trip report from you.

The nomad community is already there. Let’s tell the story.

If you voted yes, the best way to make more of these happen is to submit a report from one of the World Cup host cities. The more reports we have from LA, Dallas, Toronto, Mexico City (and the rest), the richer the next edition can be.

That's all for this one! 😊

See you next Friday, with another Digital Nomad Trip Report πŸ”΅
