Medellin, Colombia 🇨🇴

Verified Digital Nomad Trip Report 📄

What is Medellin, Colombia like for Digital Nomads?

Find out in this Digital Nomad Trip Report covering more than a month spent in the City of Eternal Spring… 🔥

📆 Time Spent

6 Weeks

📍 Location / Area

El Poblado

🏡 Accommodation

Coliving (Selina Medellin)

🌐 Internet / Working

  • Wifi generally good

  • Lots of co-working spaces & dedicated co-working cafes ☕

  • Bigger spaces offer 24hr access

🗣️ Language: Spanish

  • English spoken in touristy parts, but worth learning some basic Spanish

🌤️ Weather

  • Tropical, but weirdly consistent

  • Between 17-25C every day

  • 7/10 days it rained for an hour between 2-5pm

Things to do

  • Hiking, nature & sports like mountain biking & paragliding ⛰️

  • Language exchanges, dance classes & day trips to small towns

  • Lots of nightlife 🕺💃

📈 Best things

  • Food scene 🍽️

  • Easy to get around, despite it's size

  • The people! From locals, to other digital nomads, and full on expats

... I ran out of time there before I was able to meet with everyone I'd intended to (next time amigos!) 😊🧡

📉 Worst things

  • Party neighbourhood - would opt for Laureles next time

  • My coliving choice. It tried to be a hotel, a hostel & co living all at once (a recipe for disaster) 🤯

  • 👮 Safety - potentially a loaded topic

Anything Else?

It was really male-heavy. We didn’t meet many other nomad couples. Some female solo travellers, but few-to-none female solo nomads!

Colombians have a saying - no dar papaya - literally: ‘don’t give papaya’, essentially meaning don’t create the opportunity for thieves or bad actors to take advantage

People are quick to share that Colombia is a safe place, with no need to worry. BUT they go on to add you should be really REALLY careful.

My take: In the context of the world, it's still not a very safe place!

But taken in the context of the Country's own history, it's WAY safer than it was.

And it's only going one way! 📈

It's an AMAZING place, but it’s good to go with the understanding that you need to stay alert & keep your head on a swivel most of the time.

✅ Go here if…

  • You're a foodie and/or love a good party

  • You're tied to US / Canada timezones

  • You want a blend of big city, with easy access to green/nature!

❌ Avoid here if…

  • You want to connect with other digital nomad couples

  • Safety is your number ONE priority

  • You're not an early bird, and you work EU (or further east) timezones
